Active Hands

I have to smile

I’ll be sitting in my dayroom

the television groaning

when they come on

how our life might be better

maintain our livelihood

return that distant spark

carry on the moment

allow our desires to grow

satisfy a chemical imbalance

with a very popular pill

I have to laugh then

and I glance at my hands

and welcome my sharp mind

and realize that perhaps

I am the happier man.

  1. It is a wonder that we humans have fallen into the trap of thinking there is a magic pill to solve all ills. Once folks realize that sex is the culmination of seduction, romance, and full mental engagement the pills will be obsolete except for those with medical conditions.
