Quiet When Loud

Outside the neighborhood moved through motions,

everyone seemed purposeful, delighted, activve

whenever someone crossed paths,

quick to point out their flowers,

a garden someone else worked on

but their posture could shine in the moment.

Quiet when loud,

using only that moment to express what no one wants to reveal

deep inside.

Like tonight,

several people seem to have vanished

I haven’t been able to figure it out,

yet I know in the moment

their silence is loud.

I don’t want to go to sleep

for fear that the unknown

might define itself

before I can figure it out

Like the neighbor we can hear a mile away

nothing really to say,

just needs to keep on speaking,

keep letting the neighborhood know

nothing at all about themselves,

quiet when loud.

    Powerful and highly evocative poem…
I love the verse> “Quiet but loudly”… Truly eloquent game of opposites!
Thanks for sharing. Best wishes, Aquileana 😀
